Rand is a line of furniture and objects designed to adapt traditional, planar chair caning techniques, with modern materials into modern shapes. The objects were proven out in CAD, then templates were CNC cut from the digital model. Pieces are then shaped from solid American hardwoods, assembled with floating tenons, and finished with a clear varnish. The last step is weaving or "caning" the seating surface, which is something that I learned about from my grandfather's woodworking and craft-making when I was young. The Rand name is a tribute to him.
