Inspired by history, technology, and materials, I design and build furniture and functional objects through an acute investigation of the complex proportions and structures necessitated by the objects’ use.
Primarily working with wood, my work delves into two directions: on one hand more traditional craft techniques—but interpreted in nontraditional ways—and on the other, the use of digital tools to enable and realize new interactions amongst the parts that constitute the objects I create.
In the merging of my different investigations, my work transcends function to arrive at a unique aesthetic language.
I moved to Detroit, MI in 1998 to pursue a design education, and earned a BFA in Industrial Design/Transportation from the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in 2002. I have held a studio practice since 2005 at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit. I have shown my furniture in several group shows in the Detroit area and have had two solo exhibitions at Re:View Contemporary Gallery in Detroit, MI. I have also show individual items at NYNOW and Wanted Design Trade shows in New York City.
